oing into a martial arts studio for the first time can be intimidating, but no experience is necessary to participate in these classes; Fundamentals is partaken by all different skill levels. Whether you have had prior experience, or it’s your first class, we can start you at the basics or help you build on what you already know; and it is always useful for higher belts to review and improve their basics. The difference between a white belt and a black belt is the dedication to repeat a move until it becomes effortless.
With a strong focus on self-defense, Fundamentals is designed to prepare students for both self-defense situations and sport Jiu-Jitsu, while at the same time improving cardiovascular endurance, balance, and coordination. The Fundamental program is for anyone, male or female, of any body type or age. This class is the universal Alliance curriculum taught at all Alliance academies throughout the world. It gives students a sturdy base of knowledge that they will put into practice throughout their Jiu-Jitsu training.
Class format consists of the following: a light warm-up, 3-4 techniques per class, drills, and ending with rolling. The drills taught in the Fundamentals Class is Alliance’s secret to successful teaching. They are performed with little resistance to reinforce proper technique and learning Jiu-Jitsu as a sequence. Alliance founders Alexandre Paiva, Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti, and Fabio Gurgel believe committing the core movements of BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU to muscle memory is the key to learning effective Jiu-Jitsu.
